One of D.C’s most photographed and historic sites, the Lincoln Memorial is very accessible to people with disabilities. Accessible parking is allowed in the lot at the base of the memorial, to Lincoln’s right. The sloping ramp that goes up to the Visitor’s Center is long but manageable, and once inside there is an elevator that goes to the Statue. Nearby the Lincoln Memorial are the Vietnam and Korean War memorials, which are both fully accessible.

             Accessible Parking in Washington, D.C
As one of the world’s most visited cities, it is (predictably) tough to find a parking spot in Washington D.C. It’s even tougher if you need a spot which is accessible to people with disabilities. Tough, but not impossible. Just like in most major metropolitan areas, the best time to get prime parking spots is early in the morning. Knowing where these spots are located gives you an added advantage as well. Trying to show every accessible space on a full map of D.C is virtually impossible, but this map covers our most visited area.
http://www.disabilityguide.org/parking.htmlThis map is printed on the back of our Access Guide as well.
http://www.shop.access-dc.com/
For years, Washington D.C refused to honor out-of-state placards\plates when monitoring accessible parking spaces- this infuriated thousands of visitors who mistakenly thought they were allowed to park in these spaces because they had disabled tags\plates, even though they were from out of state (all other parts of the country honored out of state placards\plates). Parking tickets, towed cars….so many angry tourists – and all because Washington D.C wanted to have ample parking for its residents. Unfortunately, thousands of angry visitors with disabilities was not acceptable, and after we joined forces with the Paralyzed Veterans of America and the Equal Rights Center the law was changed.
